Man in 90s dies in car crash at Rainbow Reach near Kempsey on Monday

An elderly man has tragically died after his Mazda veered off the road, crashed into a pole and burst into flames on the Mid-North Coast

The challenges are ‘extensive’ to bring down Australian road deaths

A man in his 90s has died after his Mazda veered off the road and crashed into a power pole, causing the car to burst into flames.

Emergency services were called to Plummers Lane at Rainbow Reach, 25km north of Kempsey, following reports of a crash about 8.45am on Monday.

Police found the sedan had left the roadway and crashed into the pole before the fire ignited.

The driver and only person in the car, a man police believe was aged in his 90s, remained trapped in the car and died at the scene.

Mid North Coast Police District officers established a crime scene and began inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the crash.

A report will be prepared for the Coroner.
