A man has been arrested in dramatic scenes after allegedly smashing windows and threatening people in their homes on a Mid-North Coast street. One woman and her grandson were forced to seek refuge in a nearby home. See the video.

A man covered in blood has been arrested in dramatic scenes after allegedly smashing windows and threatening people in their homes on a Port Macquarie street.

Police were called to Cedar Close about 10.40pm on Thursday after a woman reported a man was kicking her front door and had smashed her front windows.

The woman and her grandson sought refuge in a neighbour’s home while police searched for the man.

Police were then called to nearby Fernhill Rd, where it was alleged a man had broken several windows of a unit before moving to a second unit and forcing his way inside, threatening an elderly couple.

All three properties were extensively damaged. Multiple windows were smashed and furniture, fences and pots were broken.

Mid North Coast Police officers attended and pepper sprayed Luke Campbell, 38, who they allege is the man behind the damage.

Campbell was taken to Port Macquarie Police Station and charged with two counts of destroying or damaging property, and one count each of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, aggravated break-and-enter and commit serious indictable offence, break-and-enter house and destroying property, intimidating police and carrying a cutting weapon when he was arrested.

Police state Campbell suffered injuries to his hands from broken glass and was in hospital under police guard on Friday afternoon.

He was refused bail to face Port Macquarie Local Court on Friday.
