The first Mi Casa Su Casa music festival in Port Macquarie went ahead this weekend. Organisers are already planning next year’s event.

Festival attendees are being praised for their good behaviour over the weekend, and encouraged to come back for next year’s event.
According to Mi Casa Su Casa event organiser, Jamie Green, there were very minimal issues at the first installment of Port Macquarie’s newest electronic music festival on Saturday, March 19.
“My wife, Belinda, and I were walking around the festival throughout the day and it was such a nice vibe,” Mr Green said.
“Everyone was having a great time and there were little to no problems or injuries among the attendees.
“So Mi Casa Su Casa will be making a return to Port Macquarie in 2023 - we want to give this new venture a solid crack, and we’re hoping locals will support it again next year.”
Mr Green was thrilled to see such a positive reception from festivalgoers, especially since the event took so long to pull together.
“I built all of the stage and set up - it tooks months,” he said.
“So we’re happy people came along and enjoyed it, and we hope to welcome even more next year.
“The 2023 Mi Casa Su Casa will have a similar sound, so I’ll be on the look out for more talented DJs ahead of the January event - be sure to get in touch if you’re interested in performing.”
As this year’s festival was originally supposed to run earlier in the year, Mr Green hopes his event can go ahead on the final weekend of January in 2023.
“ANZAC Day is on the Thursday, so some people will be taking the Friday off work for a nice little long weekend,” he said.
“And, on Saturday the 29th, we’ll be running our festival again - the timing is great.”
Mr Green also thanked those who supported the event, including Music Festivals Australia, which is run by Lake Cathie’s Michelle Symes.
EARLIER
Jamie Green, a Port Macquarie DJ passionate about electronic music, will be “spreading the love” at the first installation of Mi Casa Su Casa this weekend.
From midday Saturday, Mr Green’s appropriately-named house music festival will kick off on Town Beach Green.
Just 30 metres from the surf itself, ticketholders will have their senses treated to a picturesque location, dance-style music, colourful flowers and plants, creative decorations, unique drinks and delicious food.
The artists performing on Saturday include Nick Reverse, VØIR Sounds, Real Flavour, AGI, Amplidyne, The iBex Switch and Mi$$ Beat$.
The entertainment line-up has been hand-picked by Mr Green himself, and features a range of local talent from across the Mid North Coast and beyond.
“We’ve got seven acts in total including myself, and there’s plenty of locals on the list such as a DJ from Woolgoolga, a Port Macquarie duo, and our headliner Nick Reverse is coming up from Sydney for the event,” he said.
“They will all be playing their own unique sounds, with different subgenres within the house music umbrella.
“We’ve arranged the event so the music gets progressively more bass-heavy as the day goes on, keeping our attendees up on their feet and having a boogie.”
Mr Green said he’s looking forward to the big day, especially after reintroduced Covid restrictions postponed the event’s original date.
“We were going to run Mi Casa Su Casa in January, but weren’t able to,” he said.
“So we’re really cheering that everything’s good to go this time around, and we’ll all be allowed to sing and dance.”
Like many creatives during the Covid lockdown, Mr Green had to stop performing until it was safe to do so.
“I battled some psychological impacts, as many other artists did, but I just had to pick myself back up again and try not to sob too much,” he said.
“DJing, sharing the music you’re so passionate about, it’s a huge outlet for me so it was hard being able to.
“Which is why we’re so excited to be back on stage again this weekend.”
Mr Green hopes the festival will allow locals a chance to share in the day celebrating a genre that isn’t typically promoted much in Port Macquarie.
“There’s definitely people here that like house music, because I’ve been living in Port Macquarie for more than a decade and have done random outdoor sets and impromptu gigs in the area,” he said.
“You always get interest from people, and comments from locals, encouraging an event like this in the local area – at the end of the day it’s about sharing our passion for music.”
Mr Green’s background in music goes right back to his jazz drumming studies in Canberra, through the last 20 years producing original music and discovering a 15-year-old duo that went on to become Peking Duk, and has also been a DJ for the last 15 years – so it’s safe to say he’s well-versed in the industry.
“The rhythms and melodies of the genre, it’s just so different – I instantly fell in love with electronic,” he said.
“So I put together this event, inspired by festivals like All Day I Dream which plays across the globe – the rest of the world seems to have caught up with the modern times, now it’s Port Macquarie’s turn.
“It can be hard to get your teeth into new things in such a well-established area, but we’ve seen a great uptake in ticket sales in the 40-49 age category so it’s nice to see that group supporting local.”
For those yet to secure their tickets, you can do so here or buy them at the door on Saturday – there’s only 450 on sale so Mr Green suggests you get in quick.
Su Casa Entertainment PMQ will run the eight-hour event, supported by Port Macquarie-Hastings Council and Greater Port Macquarie.
