After battling a rare form of cancer – diagnosed after treatment for several broken bones – young Forster dad Blake Harrison has been dealt another devastating blow.
In 2021, Mr Harrison was diagnosed with multiple myeloma – a rare cancer in younger people.
His wife Ellarna was pregnant at the time with their second son Darcy, little brother to Lachlan.
While spending extended periods of time undergoing intensive treatment for multiple myeloma, including chemotherapy and stem cell transplant, the toll on the young family was immense.
He even missed Darcy’s first Christmas.
Now, four years on, the family has been dealt another blow in the form of a second cancer diagnosis.
Blake has now been diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia (sometimes called ALL) which is a cancer that affects the blood and bone marrow.
He will now need to undergo treatment in Newcastle over the next 12 to 18 months and friend Sophie Tull has established a fundraiser that she hopes will “ease the financial burden on this beautiful family”.
The Kenrose Street Early Learning Centre in Forster has urged people to support the fundraising campaign posting: ‘one of our Kenrose Street Families needs your help’.
By Thursday afternoon an incredible $17,310 had already been raised exceeding early expectations.
