Garry Walter Dale in Taree court pleads guilty to assaults at home

A retired saddler who suffered a brain injury after an accident with a horse still had a ‘sound understanding’ of what was happening when he assaulted his partner, according to police.

A retired saddler who suffered a brain injury after an accident with a horse still had a ‘sound understanding’ of what was happening when he assaulted his partner, according to police.

Garry Walter Dale has pleaded guilty to two charges of common assault on two separate people including his partner of 17 years.

The assaults took place at his Kimbriki home about 9.30pm on January 10.

According to police documents he struck his partner to the left cheek with an opened right hand after she was alerted to an incident in another part of the home.

The 71-year-old was arrested on the night of the assaults and was granted bail.

His last brush with the law was in 2008 when he was convicted of common assault in Taree Local Court and ordered to be of good behaviour for 12 months, undertake anger management and fined $70.

Prior to that in 1993 he was convicted of aggravated indecent assault and ordered to serve 200 hours of community service.

Dale appeared in Taree Local Court on Tuesday where his case was adjourned to April 9.
