When asked how a vacant block should be used in Old Bar, the local community called for improved medical facilities.

Now, one keen doctor is looking to make that dream a reality with a $20,000 investment.

Dr Nylie Le Martin Medical Practice lodged plans this month to take its business from online to in-person, asking permission to repurpose a local residential home.

“Old Bar is a small regional town that experiences the same lack of medical services as most of regional Australia,” the proposal notes.

“This business will work to assist in increasing the access to medical services for the local community.”

The plans acknowledge the current zoning for 11 Cross St, noting a GP practice would be permitted with the MidCoast Council’s approval.

“The location is zoned R1 general residential with objectives to provide housing needs and to enable other land uses that provide facilities or services to meet the day-to-day needs of residents,” a planner for the project said.

“Health services facilities are permitted in the zone with consent.

“The practice will employ a single GP, a receptionist, and a part-time practice nurse or medical assistant.”

The repurposed facility will feature a single consult room and separate procedure space.

The proposal looks to improve accessibility too, with modifications to include a ramp and wheelchair-friendly entrance.

Off-street parking is also proposed, including spaces at the front of the property and a disability-designated spot with an egress to the ramp.

Three staff parks will be available in the attached garage and at the side of the property.

Opening hours will be five to six days per week, from 9am-5pm, with potential to service two to three clients per hour.
