Retro family holiday entertainment is making a come back at one of the Mid-North Coast’s most popular holiday destinations.
The $2m mini golf club at the Crescent Head Country Club was officially opened on Thursday.
Families have been coming to the idyllic coastal town, about 20km southeast of Kempsey, for generations.
It boasts a world-renowned right-hand wave, breaking up to 400m in the right conditions; and a caravan park in the heart of town.
And now the six-hole golf course – one of a kind in Australia – in prime position on the headland is complemented with a mini 18-hole version.
It’s a joint venture with the federal government contributing $1.3m, the state $100,000 and the club chipping in the remaining $600,000.
The club is in the midst of a major redevelopment with plans for a bold new “statement” roof suspended over a landscaped entrance and the inclusion of an emergency evacuation centre.
The entry into the town along Crescent Head Road, has been impacted during flood events and could potentially be affected during significant bushfires.
Crescent Head has experienced significant growth, including the recent approval of a 109-lot subdivision.
The boom has prompted Crescent Head Crime Fighters group to renew a push for a full-time police presence in the town.
The mini-golf course is integral to the new irrigation and wastewater re-use system currently underway at the club.
Crescent Head Country Club manager Colan Ryan said the 520,000 litres of underground water tanks beneath the mini golf course are a base for the future irrigation of their PGA Rated six-hole course.
“The emphasis is on sustainability, diversification and inclusiveness and we believe this is the best mini golf facility in Australia for disability access,” Mr Ryan said.
Federal Member for Cowper Pat Conaghan said the new attraction had been a long time coming.
“Crescent Head attracts thousands of people a year with its pristine beach, renowned surf break and easy access to the best our region has to offer,” Mr Conaghan said.
“It’s not hard to see why tourism represents a significant portion of our electorate’s economy.”
