Cameron James Towle, 26, faces Port Macquarie court after drink driving crash into fence

A young drink driver who crashed through a fence with a passenger in the car while in possession of drugs ended up convicted of an ammo offence over a single bullet.

A young Port Macquarie man was drink driving when he crashed through a fence with a passenger on board and a single bullet in his pocket, a court heard.

Cameron James Towle was also in possession of a prohibited drug at the time.

The 26-year-old pleaded guilty to one count each of driving with a mid-range concentration of alcohol, possessing a prohibited drug, possessing ammunition without a permit and negligent driving.

Towle faced sentencing before Magistrate John Arms on Thursday.

Mr Arms told the court the crime was aggravated by the fact Towle had a passenger.

They were injured in the smash on Pappinbarra Rd, Frazers Creek near Wauchope about 8.30pm on October 12 last year, but made a full recovery.

Towle claimed he found a bullet when helping his grandfather clean up his shed.

Mr Arms accepted the explanations but said the discovery would have made police “very wary” about what Towle may have been involved with.

Towle’s lawyer said he was very remorseful and fixed the smashed fence, which belonged to a friend.

He was convicted, placed on a 12-month community correction order and disqualified from driving for five months.

Towle was also ordered to perform 50 hours of community service and fined $500.
