Your views sought as vision revealed for ‘health sanctuary’ at old Manly Hospital site
Plans have been unveiled for a ‘health sanctuary’ on the site of the former Manly Hospital — and now feedback is being sought from the public on the idea.

Plans are progressing for a health and wellbeing “sanctuary” at the site of the former Manly Hospital — and the NSW Government wants your views on what should be included.
As previously reported the site will be the location of Australia’s first young-adult hospice.
However, the hospice will take up just a small corner of the overall site, therefore presenting a “fantastic opportunity” to create a “health and wellbeing sanctuary,” Manly MP James Griffin said.
He said a concept plan for the site had been prepared, guiding what can be built at the site.
“Future opportunities must ensure ongoing public access, the preservation of the rainforest area, and the provision of services that contribute to the health, wellbeing and care of the community, as well as providing ongoing social benefits,” he said.
As long as proposals fit into that framework, the State Government has a “blank canvas,” he said.
“There could be dementia care, respite facilities, drug and alcohol rehabilitation, mental health services … it is a really exciting opportunity,” he said.
“We now want to hear what people want from the site.”
Mr Griffin said there are a couple of heritage protected buildings on the site. But other than that they would be “building from scratch”.
However, he said the rainforest area around the perimeter of the hospital would be retained.
The NSW Government has launched a website which enables people to post their ideas on a map of the site. There will also be an information stand at The Corso, Manly, tomorrow from 11am to 2pm.
