A massage therapist who allegedly raped a female client at Warringah Mall shopping centre has faced court.

Ying-Ju Chen’s case returned to Manly Local Court on Tuesday where he made a fresh application for bail.

Police will allege Chen had sexual intercourse with a woman, without her consent, during a one-hour massage appointment earlier this year at the Lee Massage & Acupuncture clinic.

Chen is also accused of sexually touching another client, without her consent, last year at the Brookvale clinic.

Chen is yet to enter a formal plea to one count of sexual intercourse without consent.

He has pleaded not guilty to the sexual touching charge.

Magistrate Lisa Stapleton was told on Tuesday that Chen had been granted bail by Manly court on the sexual touching charge last year.

One of the strict bail conditions included an order that he not work as a massage therapist until the matter was finalised by the courts.

But the court heard on Tuesday that Chen has allegedly breached his bail by returning to work at the Brookvale clinic.

Magistrate Stapleton also heard that he was now facing the fresh charge of sexual intercourse without consent.

Chen made a fresh application for bail on Tuesday, which was opposed by police.

Ms Stapleton rejected the application. She said she had no confidence that Chen would meet the conditions of a new bail order.

The sexual intercourse matter was adjourned to the Downing Centre Local Court on April 15.

Chen’s sexual touching charge was adjourned to Manly Court on April 2.
