The victim of an alleged Sydney stabbing murder has been described as a man with the “sweetest and kindest soul”.
Will Swift, 28, who was based on the northern beaches, died on his way to hospital after suffering several stab wounds to the chest at a home in the city’s west.
Police and Ambulance paramedics were called to Narcissus St at Quakers Hill at last Friday night after receiving calls a man had been stabbed.
The paramedics stabilised him after he had collapsed on the front porch of a neighbouring home before transporting him, in a critical condition.
But Mr Fleet died before arriving at the hospital.
At a media conference on Saturday, Detective Superintendent Scott Bingham suggested that Mr Fleet had been invited to the address where he was stabbed and that he and the alleged offender knew each other.
Supt. Bingham also told reporters that it was a criminal offence to carry a knife without a lawful reason.
Friends of Mr Fleet’s family have set up a GoFundMe donation campaign to help his family pay for his funeral.
A friend stated on the website that his mother and sisters were struggling emotionally and “do not need the added burden of rushing back to work to pay for a funeral and other ongoing bills”.
“Everybody whoever met Will, loved him and he was always described as a gentle giant,” the friend stated.
“Will has the sweetest and kindest soul you could ever come across.
“Please find it in your hearts to help this loving family. Any amount you can donate will be gratefully received.
“This family is made up of very caring and beautiful people who need to grieve without concerns about money. They have always cared about others but it’s now time to care for them.”
Toby Cusack, 26, of Quakers Hill, has been charged with Mr Fleet’s murder.
He was arrested at 1.35pm last Sunday when police stopped a vehicle on Nipper St, Strathfield.
Mr Cusack appeared in Burwood Local Court on Monday.
His solicitor, Osman Samin, told the court that the case against his client appeared to be “incredibly weak”.
“While the death is really tragic, at this stage it seems to be an incredibly weak case against my client,” Mr Samin said.
Mr Cusack was remanded in custody and scheduled to return to Parramatta Local Court on July 4.
