A FORMER babysitter of missing mum Lynette Dawson is expecting up to 300 family, friends and former students of Cromer High to attend a walk in her memory on Sunday.

One of the organisers of the walk is Bev McNally, a former Year 12 prefect at Cromer High and a babysitter for Mrs Dawson’s two girls with husband Chris, a former rugby league star and teacher at the school.

“She was a great mum, gentle and generous,” Mrs McNally, 55, of Cromer, told the Manly Daily.

“We are not trying to saint her, that’s just the way she was.

“She adored her children and would never have left them.”

The well-loved nurse went missing aged 33 from her Bayview home in January 1982.

She would have been 70 yesterday.

Two coroners said she was murdered but no body has ever been found.

Mrs McNally said supporters of Mrs Dawson hoped to keep her case in the public eye.

“We just want justice for Lyn,” she said.

Walkers will include around 50 family members including Mrs Dawson’s brother Greg Simms and wife Merilyn.

People are asked to bring a pink flower — Mrs Dawson’s favourite colour — to place at Long Reef headland at the end of the walk.

The Australian journalist Hedley Thomas, who was behind the popular podcast The Teacher’s Pet which looked into Mrs Dawson’s disappearance, will give a short speech.

Everyone is welcome to attend. Meet at Long Reef surf club carpark at 11am. Proceeds from a sausage sizzle afterwards on Fishermans Beach will go towards the women’s shelter.
