Waverley College produce second half comeback against St Augustine’s in Wallabies curtain-raiser
It was forecast to be a cracker and it was. Waverley College and St Augustine’s both had plenty to play for in the curtain-raiser to the Wallabies and Samoa Test on Saturday.

Waverley College thwarted St Augustine’s bid to avenge a pre-season loss by taking down their rivals 27-17 in the curtain-raiser to the Wallabies v Samoa Test at Bankwest Stadium on Saturday night.
But Waverley had to fight for the win, trailing their northern beaches rivals 10-12 at halftime before coming home hard withy two late tries.
“It was a cracking game. It could have gone either way,’’ said St Augustine’s coach Brian Burke who organised for Wallaby great Matt Burke to present his team with their jerseys in the dressing room before the game.
“We were in front with 10 to go and they got a late intercept and hit the lead, then scored again on full time.
“It was frantic.’’
The two sides last met pre season with Waverley running out 15-0 winners.
“It was a pretty close, pretty intense match,’’ said Waverley’s Director of Co-Curricular Stephen O’Donnell.
“It was a great game. Free flowing end to end and both schools had a decent crack.
“Ronald Vollman, our No.12, he was a standout. He scored a great physical first try.’’
