Long weekend, long lunch. And to celebrate the Queen’s Birthday holiday, Dee Why Hotel is hoisting the red, white and blue bunting, so to speak, and putting on a British-themed spread.

Chief operating officer Kaine Bayfield said a special pie was on the menu.

It is a hearty take on the traditional Sunday lunch and features the classic combination of roast beef and Yorkshire pie.

The beef and vegetable Yorkshire pie comes with Yorkshire pudding, garlic mash, steamed baby vegetables and Guinness gravy.

The dish has been created by the venue’s head chef Bernie Powling.

There’s also a special cocktail which will be perfect to toast her Majesty. The drink has a gin base and is called English Garden. It is made with Gordons London Gin, St Germain elderflower liqueur, fresh-pressed apple juice and lime juice. A Brewdog Punk IPA has also been put on as a weekend special.

The pub’s brasserie will be open from noon on Saturday and Sunday.

The outdoorsy Newport has a new winter menu with healthy options like cauliflower salad, or spicy chicken burgers available at The Shack. Head to one of the other food outlets on the premises and you’ll be able to sample meaty offerings like beef brisket rolls or Angus beef pho, which are available from The Kiosk.

Merivale’s northern beaches pub also has a range of pizzas from the centrally located Vinnie’s Pizza.
