SINGLE this Valentine’s Day?
Here are the best places to avoid the sickly couples and maybe even find yourself a Valentine.
Go nude — or not — for art
Declare your love for art on Feburary. 14 — with or without your clothes on.
Yes, you’re encouraged to pick up a paper heart from Level 1 of the Museum of Contemporary Art Australia, and place it on the floor by the artwork that has you weak at the knees and share it using #HeartsforArt.
Sadly the after-hours naturist tour, led by artist Stuart Ringholt is sold out.
Details: Free, 140 George Street, mca.com.au
Catch an outdoor flick
It’s a big night for Sydney’s outdoor cinemas.
We can’t guarantee no couples watching La La Land at Moonlight Cinema in Centennial Park, but it’ll be dark, so maybe you can flick popcorn at the annoying ones.
Meanwhile St George Cinema at the stunning Mrs Macquarie’s point has a comedy to make you forget you’re actually single and loveless.
Kiwi film, Pork Pie follows a road trip adventure, starring Dean O’Gorman (The Hobbit), James Rolleston and Aussie actor Ashleigh Cummings (Puberty Blues).

Have a Single Soiree
I’m a big fan of the roaming dinner parties arranged by Sydney Soiree, and I’m spending the dreaded day at their Valentine’s Party at a Paddington hotel.
And forget taking your single gal pal — the idea is you take along a nice single male friend — a bit like on that episode of Sex and the City — who could be somebody special for somebody else.
The party, in conjunction with Go Catch, is mainly invite only and aimed at folk around 20s to 30s — which indicates there’ll be no minglers — but the organisers are giving some tickets away to.
Details: To win, they want to know: If you were a cocktail what would you be and why?
Just email your answer by midnight on Sunday February 12.
Include your name, age, suburb and location of yourself and of the person you’ll take if you win.

Meet a bachelorette
Dating app Bumble (my current fave) will be handing out flowers and chocolates at World Square to brighten your tragic Valentine’s Day.
Lana from The Bachelor will also pop by at noon to take some selfies.
Details: 10.30am-2.30pm, World Sq, George St, Sydney,
Join the Lonely Hearts Club
Valentine’s Day Eve will see Handpicked Cellar Door in Chippendale roll out some of my fave things: Singstar, wine, cheese and pizza for a special night aimed at those not out buying roses/chocolates/giant cards.
Details: $10, 50 Kensington St, Chippendale, handpickedwines.com.au
Climb aboard a loveboat
Two firms, Seadeck and Singles Afloat are holding Valentine’s cruises on the big day.
I can’t guarantee you’ll meet a hunky sailor, but at least you won’t end up all at sea on your sofa with Netflix.
Details: Seadeck $49 plus booking fee from seadeck.com.au, Singles Afloat $65 from stickyticket.com
Get your chops around a tasty treat
Magnum ice cream is not only offering you the chance to try their new red velvet flavour, but you could also win a spot at the next Movable Feast dinner party with former Bachelor contestant Cameron Cranley.
Just don't eat too many, or you’ll get fat and then nobody will want you. Joking.
Details: QVB Forecourt, Sydney 12pm — 6pm and Saturday 18 February, 12pm-4pm, Coogee Beach
Get your drag on
Forget guys for the night and get your laugh on to Maxi Shield.
The Old Clare Hotel even has cocktails including First Date Feeling, with Pampero rum, date & chilli syrup, fresh lime juice and a candied rose petal.
It’s “a true masterpiece for an independent wo/man who don’t need no wo/man,” they say.
Details: Free, from 6pm, Old Clare Hotel, 1 Kensington St, Chippendale theoldclarehotel.com.au
Dance like nobody’s watching
Jive away the bad dates and ghosting guys at a special Valentine’s edition of Manly’s No Lights No Lycra group. As it’s in the dark, you don’t even need to wear make up.
The movement was started in Melbourne by dance students Alice Glenn and Heidi Barrett.
Details: $7, 7.30pm, Manly Community Centre, 12 Wentworth St, Manly, nolightsnolycra.com
Eat Hot Dogs
At a night dubbed Would you like cheese with that?, Surry Hills bar, Soda Factory, is offering $1 hotdogs for those without a hot date. Which is far better anyway. Drinks are also $5 until 7pm.
De tails: 16 Wentworth Ave, Surry Hills
