Two teens were taken to hospital after being struck by massive waves while “chain surfing” at a northern beaches ocean pool this afternoon.
The boys, aged 15 and 18, were with a group of youths hanging onto the chains and letting themselves be struck by the massive swells at the eastern end of the rock pool at South Curl Curl Beach.
Emergency services, including the CareFlight emergency rescue helicopter, were called at about 2.15pm after the pair were swept into the pool by the giant surf.
NSW Ambulance said it was initially believed the 15-year-old boy was knocked unconscious after hurting his head on the side by the pool while being tumbled by the waves.
A spokesman said the boy did suffer a head injury and also suffered hip and back pain.
The 18-year-old injured his groin.
Both were stabilised near the beach’s amenities block before they were taken to Royal North Shore Hospital in a stable condition.
