Trendy burger bar Five Points Burgers to take over KFC site in Manly

Cheap and cheerful Maccas and KFC look like they have definitely fallen out of favour with Manly’s residents, with another ‘high quality’ burger bar set to move into a former fast food joint.

A battle of the hipster burger bars looks set to play out in Manly with another trendy outlet moving into the former KFC site.

Five Points Burgers has a store in North Sydney which offers a range of New York-style burgers starting at around $14.50.

It will open a second restaurant in Manly before the end of the year, according to a source.

It will be situated opposite the 60-seater Betty’s Burgers on Manly Wharf which replaced two fast food spots, formerly Subway and Nando’s.

It comes just a week after the co-founder of the successful Portuguese chicken restaurant chain Oporto, Gary Linz, revealed he would be launching an innovative new healthy burger bar in Darley Rd, offering slushy alcoholic cocktails and beer on tap.

Most burgers will be under $12 and again it should be open by the end of the year.

Meanwhile, other trendy burger places that have opened recently include Burgers and Beers in Darley Rd and The Blind Barrel, on Wentworth St.

Both sell craft beers on tap.

John Dumay, who is ‘Dad’ from Dad & Dave’s Brewery, set up Burgers and Beers in December, as a way of having somewhere to sell their beer, as well as providing everyone’s favourite food.

“Burgers are a food trend people are getting into,” Mr Dumay said.

“People have got tired of the fast food burger.

“Every burger we make is cooked to order and all the ingredients are the best quality and we buy the fresh produce every day on our way in.

“We always have a different special and we have great sauces.”

Their classic cheeseburger is $12.

The move towards trendy burger options follows the closure of McDonald’s and KFC in Manly in the last 12 months.
