JEWEL thieves are targeting homes on the northern beaches, police warn.
One homeowner had jewellery and luxury watches valued at close to $35,000 stolen in a brazen daylight burglary this week.
Another home was ransacked during the day last week, with thieves making off with $2000 in jewels.
The burglars are not just taking precious stones and watches but also grabbing cash and valuable items including musical instruments and sports shoes.
Between 8.45am and 10am on Wednesday a thief broke into a house in Mulgowrie Cres, Balgowlah Heights.
A Northern Beaches local area command spokesman said the robber smashed a window near the front door to get inside.
“The thief ransacked a number of rooms,” the spokesman said.
“They went through cupboards and pulled open numerous drawers looking for valuables.
“The main bedroom was also ransacked. The occupants weren’t in the house.”
When the householders arrived home they found that a stainless steel Cartier watch was missing along with an IWC (International Watch Co) Swiss watch, with a distinctive blue face.
They also discovered that a white gold ring, encrusted with diamonds, had disappeared along with a heart-shaped pendant containing a number of gemstones.
“The thieves escaped with almost $35,000 worth of jewellery, watches and cash,” the spokesman said.
During daylight hours on Wednesday, May 2, a home in Connemara Ave, Killarney Heights, was burgled.
Police said thieves damaged the front door in their efforts to get inside.
“After ransacking various rooms the thieves made off with a trumpet worth more than $2000,” the police spokesman said.
“A number of jewellery items with a total value of more than $2000 were taken.
The burglars also made off with a new pair of silver Nike sneakers as well as a GHD brand hair straightener valued at more than $200.
Police are urging anyone with information about the thefts to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
