A hip new members club with a bar and all-day dining is due to open in Manly next month as part of a $25m development.
The six-storey building includes 38 one, two and three-bed apartments and a 800sq m area on the ground floor set aside for the club which will have a lounge, bistro, sports lounge, gaming area with 50 machines, bar, kitchen and an outdoor terrace.
The grandly-named The Manly Club on Gilbert Park, West Esplanade, replaces the old Manly Civic Club which closed nearly 12 years ago.
The heritage listed 1930s Auckland garage remains but has been completely renovated and will be the main dining area.
Ron Malm, CEO said the new club would be quite different from the civic club and he was hoping it would attract a younger demographic.
“We want this to be very much a locals haunt,” he said.
“We’ve future proofed the club by going with the latest technology for everything.
“We even have lighting to create different moods.”
There will also be a number of TVs for sport lovers and a TAB area, as well as other spaces without screens.
Mr Malm admitted it had taken quite a while to get to this point.
He said after the Manly Civic Club closed in December 2008, plans to rebuild were hindered by the GFC.
“We were unable to get finance for our original plans,” he said.
In the end they went into a joint venture with a developer Newquest Property.
Mr Malm said the club was aiming to open on March 21 and would be employing around 45 people.
