Proposed new Frenchs Forest town centre

Images of what a northern beaches high school will look like after it is bulldozed and moved to a new site 1.5km up the road, have been revealed.

The Forest High will be demolished to make way for a new town centre at Frenchs Forest and its 1000 students relocated to a new campus at Allambie Heights.

Authorities have already confirmed it will be built on the abandoned former Cerebral Palsy Alliance HQ at the top of Allambie Rd.

Parents and staff have been told that students could be walking in the gates at the new school in early 2025.

They have also been advised that the new school will have a visual arts, wood and metalwork workshops; sports courts and a playing field; hospitality and kitchen spaces as well as “flexible learning spaces”.

There will also be Wi-Fi, including in all outdoor areas.

Authorities were hoping to start building the school in early 2023 with the demolition of the old Cerebral Palsy Alliance building starting in late 2022.

Education authorities said the final business case will go for government approval in coming weeks before an environmental-impact statement is prepared in a few months time.

“Consultation with Northern Beaches Council, Transport for NSW and other key stakeholders is currently underway as we carry out the technical studies, detailed site investigations and design development.

“Students will not move until the new high school facilities are built to minimise disruption to teaching and learning,” authorities said.

There is already an existing development application, approved by the council, for demolition work on the site.

There were investigations into moving the school to the reserve next to the aquatic centre, but concerns that it would be build on an old council tip prompted authorities to look for another location.

A final decision on the proposed new town centre, which includes medium density residential areas with shop-top apartment blocks up to 12 storeys, is yet to be made by the NSW Government.
