Aldi is set to super-size one of its current stores on the northern beaches.

The popular supermarket which uses the slogan “good different” is building one of its new look concept stores in Dee Why Grand shopping centre.

The company – famed for its ‘Special Buys’ aisle which is updated every Wednesday and Saturday – already has a store in the centre, but is expanding into the former Harris Farms unit next door.

In a statement on the Dee Why Grand website titled Aldi Expansion, it said that the Aldi store is “expanding into the adjoining tenancy”.

It said the current store is still open, while work is already underway in the adjacent premises.

The old store will close in mid June for two weeks to “complete a full transformation, combining their old store with the new component”, according to the statement from management.

The store will be one of the “new concept” Aldi designs with larger aisles and wooden cladding around the fresh produce section.

The new, larger supermarket is scheduled to open on July 1, according to Dee Why Grand.

Its closest competitor is Coles, also situated within the centre.

The appetite for Aldi supermarkets does not seem to be slowing on the northern beaches.

Only last year a brand new store opened in Roseberry St, Manly Vale, directly opposite its competitor Woolworths, employing a team of 15-20 permanent full and part-time employees.

Other stores on the northern beaches are located at Manly Wharf, Warringah Mall, Warriewood, Mona Vale, Frenchs Forest and Belrose.

Aldi increased its market share to 12.4 per cent last year, behind Woolworths and Coles according to a report by Roy Morgan.

Aldi was approached for comment.
