FORMER SCEGGS Redlands student Samantha Robertson has won a prestigious Stanford University award.
The J.E Wallace Sterling Award recognises the world-class university’s top 25 graduating students from its School of Humanities and Sciences.
After completing year 12 in 2014, the former Mosman student moved to San Francisco to study Mathematical and Computational science at the esteemed United States’ university.
The honorary graduate will now continue her studies in September as a PhD candidate.
Set to graduate in June this year, the young scholar has invited her former high school maths teacher Karen Pittard to an honorary lunch for prize winners at the Stanford campus.
Ms Pittard told the Manly Daily she was thrilled to be invited, and was looking forward to travelling to San Francisco for the luncheon.
Ms Robertson said her high school maths teacher had been a major influence and a source of inspiration behind her academic career.
Redlands’ Principal Peter Lennox congratulated the former student and Redlands’ staff member.
“Samantha achieved a perfect IB score of 45/45, the equivalent of a 99.95 ATAR, while at Redlands,” Dr Lennox said.
“She achieved a very rare grade seven in higher level maths,” he said. “We’re so excited to see what the future holds for her.
“The fact Samantha credits her Redlands teacher all these years later is a wonderful measure of not just her character, but the lasting impact of Ms Pittard.”
Dr Lennox said 25 per cent of Redlands’ school leavers opted to pursue tertiary studies overseas, applying to universities in the United States, United Kingdom and Canada.
