MANLY Marlins back Reece Hodge now wants to cement a spot in the Wallabies starting side following is elevation into the Test side for tomorrow’s showdown with the Springboks.
His selection on the wing for his starting debut in the game at Suncorp Stadium caps an amazing rise for the 22-year-old.
Hodge was signed by the Melbourne Rebels this season following his eye-catching performances with the Marlins.
He played minutes as a replacement in the last Bledisloe Cup game in Auckland and booted a penalty goal from over 50m out.
“I can’t really think of it as a surprise now, I am at this level and I have played a Test,” he told the Manly Daily yesterday.
“I just want to consolidate my spot now and make sure I don’t give anyone else an opportunity to come in and take my spot.”
Playing against the All Blacks a fortnight ago gave Hodge a big confidence boost.
“You can’t go on not expecting to do well, I think that is the attitude I have to go in with,” he said.
“I think I just have to play my role, not try to do too much and just be accurate and execute when I get the opportunity be it attack or defence.”:
