She might love it but there is no way in the world Remy Siemsen will be going for a surf before Sydney FC’s W-League semi-final because of what happened the last time she did.

She might have a coffee, chill out or listen to music but there is one thing Remy Siemsen won’t be doing before her W-League semi-final and that’s going for a relaxing surf.
Sydney FC has made every W-League finals series but the last one Siemsen played was in 2018 before she left the club briefly for a stint at the Western Sydney Wanderers.

And it was then Siemsen suffered nasty injuries prior to the game in a terrifying surfing mishap at Dee Why which saw her thrown repeatedly against rocks and her skin shreded.
“The beach was closed because it was so big so we thought we would rock off. I had never done it before,” said the Sydney FC gun from Frenchs Forest who still bears scars on her leg from the accident.
“I heard this weird voice come into my head and say ‘don’t do it’. I was halfway on the rocks and my friend turned and said ‘Remy, you have to be quick’.
It was a life lesson. I don’t do anything risky to hurt myself for football
“The biggest wave of the day swept my foot from under me. I got burns from my neck down my side of the body.
“I was bruised. I wasn’t breathing. It was one of those scary life lessons when you should listen to your conscience.
“I haven’t surfed at a beach with rocks ever since. I didn’t surf for a while after that it was so traumatic. I had third degree burns from slicing the rocks.
“I still get the shivers when I see Dee Why rocks. I can see my skin on the rocks still.”

A standout for Sydney FC this season and with aspirations of cracking the Matildas squad in the near future, Siemsen said she is now more conscious of looking after herself.
“I was a lot younger then. It was a life lesson. I don’t do anything risky to hurt myself for football,” she said.
“My body is an asset as a footballer now.”
After Sydney FC’s semi-final, the Wanderers will play Melbourne City on Sunday at 1.30pm.
The defending champions have suffered mixed fortunes this season, losing key players to injury, Matildas commitments and big overseas offers.
The Ante Juric coached side finished the regular season in third place and during it suffered their first ever defeat to the Wanderers - a 5-0 thumping - in the Sydney derby.
