DAD’S the word for Sea Eagles star Dylan Walker, who is more energetic than ever as he anxiously awaits the birth of his first child.
The attacking ace, who will miss for Sunday’s game against the Roosters at Lottoland, is playing the waiting game with his partner Alexandra Woods as their first son is due any day.
And the imminent arrival is a real ray of sunshine after what has been a very frustrating season for Walker and his teammates.
“I’m on call at the moment, it could be anytime, when my phone goes off I’m starting to get a bit antsy, ” Walker admitted.
“I’ve been itching for it because that’s probably the light at the end of my tunnel at the moment.
“I’m really impatient with him at the moment, I can’t wait.”
That’s because family has always played very important part in the life of the electrifying back.
“I’m one of eight and always grew up with siblings and nieces and nephews,” he said.
“I’m really close with my mum and brothers and sisters.”
Walker had five off-season operations which meant a late comeback to his 2018 NRL campaign.
“It took a while for me to find my feet,” Walker said.
And most recently there was his highly publicised fractured eye socket after he was punched in the face by Storm centre Curtis Scott in the fiery clash between their two sides at AAMI Park.
“Everything’s been thrown my way and I think my body needs a good old rest, that’s for sure,” Walker said.
“I just take it as it comes, there are things l could have avoided, but that is just the way it goes.
“Anyone who knows me knows I am a ball of energy and a bit of fun and I like my talking that’s for sure.”
Walker dislocated his kneecap in the win over Penrith and missed last Saturday’s loss to the Storm.
Early yesterday he was not sure if he would be able to take on the Roosters.
“I’m getting physio and icing it and doing all my rehab stuff,” he said.
But he was later ruled out and rising star Tom Wright will start at five-eighth.
“They are pretty good, saying they are not going to rush anyone back,” Walker said.
“They want to look after me and have my best interests first.”
Walker said he didn’t want to come back too early and risk doing more damage to his knee.
“I don’t want to go into it at 90 per cent, I want to be 100 per cent,” Walker said.
“I don’t want to let anyone down.”
