THE Sea Eagles decision to immediately release State of Origin prop Nate Myles to join the Melbourne Storm is shaping up as another shrewd move by the club’s director of football Bob Fulton and coach Trent Barrett.

It will free up a large amount of money in Manly’s salary cap which will help the club re-sign some of their younger players and be active in the marketplace.

Myles still had a year to run on his contract and there was speculation yesterday that he was on a deal worth $500,000 a year.

Details of the mid-season switch were finalised in meetings with Myles’ management yesterday.

In a statement the Sea Eagles said: “The Club recognises Nate’s significant contribution both on and off the field in providing much needed stability, being a key contributor in building a winning culture and confidence in our developing forward pack.”

The 31-year-old forward joined Manly last year but described his form in his debut season as “s … house.”

He could make his debut for the Storm in Saturday’s game against the Cowboys at AAMI Park.

And while Manly has released Myles, the old Silvertails have signed a “Toff”.

Junior Kiwi representative and Warriors forward Toafofoa (Toff) Sipley will be with the club in 2018 and 2019.

The Sea Eagles say their recruitment team have had their eyes on the 22-year-old for some time.
