SEA Eagles forward Jake Trbojevic believes his forward pack gained some hard earnt respect as well as two vital competition points after their 30-8 win over the Cowboys on the weekend.
“It was pretty impressive defence right across the park, the whole second half we held on and defended really well,” the workhorse forward said.
“Even when they got a penalty or repeat set we were pretty confident we could hold them out.”
That performance, with Trbojevic and props Brenton Lawrence and Nate Myles leading the way in the forward exchanges, was the boost that the team needed ahead of Saturday afternoon’s showdown with the Bulldogs at Lottoland.
“It gives us a lot of confidence now that we know we can do it,” Trbojevic said.
“When we are under pressure and backs against the wall we can win the game and have a lot of resolve. And now we know we can do it we have to do it every week.”
At the same time Trbojevic said there were always things to work on.
“We’ve probably shooting ourselves in the foot a little bit with a few errors and that sort of thing,” he said.
“We’ve been putting ourselves under a bit of pressure that we probably don’t need to be.
“So we’ve got to fix that up so we won’t actually have to defend so much.”
Trbojevic said the criticism the team copped in the opening two rounds had been frustrating.
“When you see players under pressure and coaches under pressure and feel they don’t deserve to be it is disappointing at times,” he said.
“But the only thing you can do is come out and win and that is what we did on the weekend- so we just have to keep doing it because that’s what silences it.”
