Organisers of the Newport Summer 7s will look at extending the tournament to a two-day event next year and opening it to senior teams.
The expansion plan will be looked at in the wake of the highly successful inaugural first event attended by more than 1000 supporters.
“We think this will take off now,” said organiser Luke Jenks from the Newport rugby club.
“We will now consider making it a full weekend and opening it up to senior teams as well.
“There is clearly a lot of interest in sevens. We even had teams from as far away as Chatswood.”
HALL OF FAME: From bathtub to world stage
The festival atmosphere proved a big hit for spectators and players, including Warriewood brother and sister Charlie, 13, and Lilly Boyle, 14.
The siblings played together in the same team when Lilly was given a dispensation to compete with her brother’s 13s boys team.
“I’ve played sevens before, I played during the winter and really liked it,’’ said Lilly, who attends Narrabeen Sports High with her brother.
“Today there wasn't a girl team but I like playing with the boys.
“I scored the last try which was good. I didn’t expect to.
“The more tournaments the more girls will play. Something like this helps you get involved.’’
