THE Manly-Warringah Junior Rugby League has launched an investigation into an ugly brawl that erupted at the end of Sunday’s under 17 grand final between the Avalon Bulldogs and the Beacon Hill Bears at Brookvale Oval.
What were described as disgraceful scenes by witnesses occurred at the end of the game which won by Avalon with a late field goal 21-20.
There was an allegation that a player was kicked in the head after he was knocked to the ground during the brawl that lasted between three and four minutes.
“The junior rugby league has requested a copy of the video of the game,” said Michael Covey, president of the Manly-Warringah junior rugby league.
“We will review the video before any formal charge sheets will be issued in relation to that game.”
Covey was at Brookvale Oval and witnessed part of the melee
“Any disruption on a field before, during or after a game is not good,” he said
“Fulltime was virtually called and then the scuffle broke out.
“I am not happy with the incident at the end of that game.”
