Kasper Christensen, 45: Top Sydney TV chef charged with domestic violence

A top chef who once cooked for the Danish royal family and was in charge of food at the Sydney Opera House has pleaded not guilty to domestic violence charges.

A top chef who once cooked for the Danish royal family and was in charge of food at the Sydney Opera House has pleaded not guilty to domestic violence charges.

Kasper Christensen, 45, who appeared in cooking segments on axed morning TV talk show Studio 10, is alleged to have assaulted and injured a woman.

Christensen, of Frenchs Forest, is charged with one count of assault occasioning actual bodily harm – domestic violence related, and one count of common assault – domestic violence related.

Court documents state the alleged assault occurred at an address at Frenchs Forest at about 9.15am on December 17.

Christensen, who is well known in Sydney hospitality circles after working at a number of the city’s top eateries including Quay Restaurant at Circular Quay and the Bathers Pavilion at Mosman, pleaded not guilty to both charges when he appeared in Manly Local Court in January.

Christensen appeared in court on Tuesday when a hearing into the allegations was set down for May 5.

His solicitor Philippa Walsh told the Registrar that her client wanted time to make representations to the investigating police in relation to the two charges.

The registrar adjourned the matters for mention on April 15 to confirm whether a possible hearing date is needed.

Christensen, once the managing chef at the Sydney Opera House, also founded the charity Bread for Life with his wife Anna, selling sourdough starter kits in Australia and overseas.

On his LinkedIn profile, Christensen stated that he was a chef to the Danish royal family in 2001, while he was completing his compulsory national military service.

The family was cruising through Europe on their annual summer getaway aboard the royal yacht “Dannebrog”.

His profile states: “Kasper is a highly skilled Chef with over two decades of experience in the restaurant industry in Australia and abroad.”

“He has worked with world-renowned chefs in Australia: Rene Redzepi at Noma Australia, Peter Gilmore at Quay, and Serge Dansereau at The Bathers’ Pavilion.

“Currently, Kasper operates a boutique private events business, Nordic Dining, offering the most exclusive fine dining service and quality to smaller events across Sydney.

“The quality of local produce, seasonality, and the simplicity of flavours, textures and colours remain the crucial values of his food philosophy.”
