Georgia Miller first surf life saver to beat Lana Rogers in major race this season

No one has been able to beat inform ironwoman Lana Rogers all season - until now.

Georgia Miller has broken through for her first major ironwoman win of the Australia surf life saving season.

Georgia Miller went through last season undefeated but has ensured her rival Lana Rogers won’t be able to boast the same thing despite the inform ironwoman claiming the Nutri-Grain ironwoman crown with a round in hand.

Miller, born and bred on Sydney’s northern beaches, thwarted Queenslander Rogers bid to go through the five-round series undefeated with her fourth round victory on the Gold Coast on Sunday.

“It’s so nice to get the first big win here this season,’’ Miller said after pipping her Queensland foe for the victory in the new specialist format which consisted of separate swim, board, ski and run races to determine the starting order of the final full ironwoman race.

“I got to go off two seconds ahead of Lana in the finale race and that was important.’’

With athletes able to discard their worst performance of the season, Rogers’ haul of three wins and a second place secured her the iron crown ahead of the series final at North Cronulla on January 19.

But there is still much at play for her rivals with Miller hoping to defend her second place in the series.

“The goal is to stay in a podium position,’’ said Miller, who returns home from her training base on the Gold Coast for Christmas.

Overall Rogers leads the series from Miller with Danielle McKenzie third and NSWs pair Lizzie Welborn and Jemma Smith fourth and fifth.

The men’s racing was won by Corey Taylor from Tanyn Lyndon with Manly’s Kendrick Louis third and Redhead’s Dan Collins fourth.

“I am absolutely spent. That was the toughest format I have done,’’ said Louis.

With their worst result dropped, Lyndon leads overall from Louis heading into the finale.

“It’s pretty close so fingers crossed we can bring it back early next year and finish this off. It’s going to be a great battle for the title.’’
