MANLY United FC’s season came to a dramatic end on Saturday night after they were thumped 5-0 by Bonnyrigg at Seymour Shaw Park.
United knew they had to win to stay alive in 2016, and would have been satisfied entering the sheds at 0-0.
The White Eagles were a different team after the break, with Aaron Peterson grabbing the game’s first goal on 48 minutes.
Sam Gallaway, who trained with Manly in the off-season before defecting to Bonnyrigg, made it 2-0 just after an hour.
Peterson then grabbed his second before it became the Robbie Younis show.
So often the big game player United have been unable to contain in recent years, Younis scored two goals in the blink of an eye to make it 5-0.
Manly coach Paul Dee was bitterly disappointed at fulltime.
“What can I say?” he said.
“I feel like we dominated the first half but lost our way when they scored the first goal.
“We just couldn’t handle the onslaught – and next thing it was game over.”
Dee then passed on his best wishes to left winger Adam Parkhouse, who has secured an A-League contract with Wellington Phoenix.
“Adam has been with us for two years and really come along in leaps and bounds,’’ he said.
United’s 20s won 2-0 to move through to their decider on September 11.
