A teenager was flown to hospital after suffering serious head injuries when he fell from a bicycle on the northern beaches.
The boy, 15, was knocked out when his head hit the roadway after the front wheel of his bike “snapped”.
Members of the public saw the teen fall in Bangalley Way, near the corner of North Avalon Rd, about 5.45pm on Tuesday.
Three ambulances were called to the scene while a CareFlight helicopter, with an emergency medical team on-board, landed in nearby Hitchcock Park.
A CareFlight spokesman said the chopper pilot had to cope with poor visibility caused by smoke haze from bushfires just north of Sydney.
“The helicopter’s critical care team were conveyed to the scene by police,” the spokesman said. “CareFlight’s specialist doctor and NSW Ambulance critical care paramedic provided further treatment to the boy for injuries to the head.”
An Ambulance spokesman said the teen was bleeding from the nose and had a laceration to an ear and suffered a convulsion just after the accident.
“The 15-year-old male was on a pushbike when the front wheel snapped,” the Ambulance spokesman said.
The boy was transferred to the helicopter and flown to the Children’s Hospital at Westmead in a serious but stable condition.
