Smart traffic lights will be installed between Neutral Bay and Balgowlah — drastically reducing travel time along the busy commuter route.
The Liberal Party has made the transport pledge, provided they are re-election on March 23.
As well as the so-called smart lights being put in along the 8km stretch the Liberals are promising a trial of digital parking systems and using drones to give drivers real time updates.
MP for Manly James Griffin explained the lights scan the road to detect movement and talk to each other to ensure a smoother flow.
“No one wants to spend any more time on the road than they have to, and that is why we’ve invested in smart traffic lights for intersections along Military Rd that will help drivers get to work and home much faster,” Mr Griffin said.
“Smart lights are able to read traffic flow and change from red to green to clear traffic queues, reducing the number of stops in traffic by up to 15 per cent.”
The Liberals are also promising cash to launch trials into a digital parking system.
This will link up to an app which will provide live updates on where spaces are free.
Drivers will also get alerts to their phone when they are required to return to their cars.
Money will also be spent on buying and operating drones along the road network to give live updates to better redirect drivers away from traffic.
