Shelly Beach on Sydney’s northern beaches was closed by the council and lifeguards are patrolling on jet skis after a group of swimmers noticed a grey nurse shark earlier today.
A Northern Beaches Council spokeswoman said the Bold and Beautiful swimming group reported the sighting about 8am on Saturday.
“We have contacted fisheries and Shelly Beach is closed as precaution,” she said.

Pete Schultz - a member of the Bold and Beautiful swim group that runs form Manly to Shelly that is known for its pink caps - was attacked by what was believed to be a grey nurse shark about 5am on Wednesday.
Grey nurse sharks are critically endangered and generally considered harmless.
But Mr Schultz was hospitalized after suffering numerous injuries including a puncture wound to his stomach.
Pete Schultz, 53, underwent surgery on Tuesday afternoon and was released from hospital on Thursday.
An off-duty senior firefighter who had been swimming with Mr Schultz said he suffered “major trauma to various areas” including cuts to his left leg and back.
Fire & Rescue Chief Superintendent Ken Murphy said he heard Mr Schultz scream, saying he had been “hit by something”.
On Tuesday both Manly and Shelly beaches were closed. On Saturday, Manly Beach remained open.
