Severe weather: Flash flooding and trees down on the northern beaches
Roads were closed and residents on alert after flash flooding on the northern beaches on Thursday morning as a severe weather warning for heavy rainfall has been issued.

Flash flooding caused by overnight torrential rain has affected parts of the northern beaches.
Morning peak hour traffic on Pittwater Rd at Dee Why was massively disrupted after it was closed for more than an hour with water over the road just north of Westmoreland Ave.
Traffic was also slowed by water surging cross the roadway from stormwater drains in the Dee Why CBD near Redman Rd.

Balgowlah Rd, near the Andrew Boy Charlton Manly Swimming Centre was closed. Flooding across Kentwell Rd near the Warringah Golf Course at North Manly forced its closure for a short period.
Traffic is also affected by the closure of Wakehurst Parkway, between Frenchs Forest and Narrabeen, due to flooding.
Oxford Falls Rd is also closed at Oxford Falls.
The State Emergecmcy Service Manly Unit was called out to a large tree that fell and brought down powerlines at the corner of William and Quilpe streets at North Manly.
This comes as the Weather Bureau issued a Severe Weather Warning for heavy rain across Sydney that could lead to more flash flooding.
In the 24 hours to 9am Thursday, 114.8mm of rain fell on Manly and Dee Why.
Between 9am and 11am, 20mm was collected in the rain gauge at Terrey Hills.
On Wednesday afternoon sections of several streets in North Narrabeen were underwater including Gondola Rd, Garden St and Namona St, near Narrabeen Sports High School.
The State Emergency Service is advising people to stay off the roads if travel is not essential.
It also warned that motorists should not drive through any floodwaters.
The bureau is warning that six-hourly rainfall totals between 60 to 100mm are likely, reaching up to 140mm over coastal areas.
There is a chance of locally intense rainfall developing around coastal areas north of Wollongong on Thursday morning associated with thunderstorm activity. Severe thunderstorm warnings will be issued if this activity eventuates.
