A schoolgirl has called on Tony Abbott to apologise after the Warringah MP is reported to have made a $100 bet over the impact of climate change.
A crowd gathered outside Mr Abbott’s Manly office on Wednesday afternoon to see Vivienne Paduch, 15, hand deliver a letter to his office.
It follows the student climate protest on Friday in which dozens of youngsters demonstrated outside his office.
Following the protest some students challenged Mr Abbott over his views on climate change in Hemingway’s cafe, North Steyne.
After speaking to the students author Cassie Flanagan Willanski then challenged him over his views.
Mr Abbott is reported to have bet her $100 that in 10 years’ time the climate will not have changed.
“I was completely shocked,” Miss Paduch, who attends Manly Selective School, said.
“It is just such a cavalier way to deal with the biggest crisis our current world faces.
“To dismiss not just the school strikers but the future of my generation and generations after is just appalling.
“Today I’m asking for an apology and for Mr Abbott to educate himself and his party about climate change.”
Michael Wiles, from Mosman, turned up to support Miss Paduch.
“I hear what the kids are saying.
“While they might not be voters, they soon will be and they should be listened to.”
Mr Abbott has been contacted for comment.
