A TRAFFIC study of Roseberry St, Balgowlah, will be undertaken with councillors ordering staff to bring back a report within six months.
It follows a string of complaints after an influx of large retail chains in the area adding to traffic woes.
As part of a review being pushed by Deputy Mayor Candy Bingham, the council will review the possibility and traffic impact of joining the north and south sections of Quirk Rd, linking Balgowlah and Kenneth roads.
“In 2011 the former Manly council adopted a masterplan for the Manly Industrial Area, in recognition of the changing use of the area with the then pending opening of Bunnings and Woolworths in Roseberry St South, Balgowlah,” a report prepared by Cr Bingham said.
“Since then further major retailers, including furniture outlets, have opened in this section of the street.”
An Aldi is soon to open in the street and with the added operation of the B-Line carpark in Kenneth Rd, Cr Bingham said it “will further impact on this already highly-congested area”.
“Roseberry St South, Balgowlah is under increasing pressure due to the opening of a number of large retail outlets in the street in recent times, with more to come,” Cr Bingham’s notice of motion said.

Planning staff also wrote a report to councillors saying sucha study could cost $5 million.
The report said a “range of enhancements to improve the amenity of the area” were proposed as part of the 2011 plan.
“Many of these actions have been completed however some initiatives, including a new gateway entry at Roseberry St north (including landscape elements and raised
pedestrian crossing) did not proceed to more detailed design and costing.”
