The “Encore Manly” music and comedy festival has attracted big names including Amy Shark, Daryl Braithwaite, The Presets, Client Liaison, Tommy Little and Peter Helliar to the line-up.

More than 20 venues, ranging from pubs, surf clubs, bars, cafes and restaurants will host a total of more than 60 artists.

Even Bluey and Bingo from the hit ABC Kids’ series Bluey will be catching the ferry to Manly to appear at the big event that runs from August 17-28.

Northern beaches local and INXS band member Kirk Pengilly has signed on as Encore Manly’s official ambassador and is already excited about seeing people returning to live venues after the Covid restrictions saw the entertainment industry slump.

He said he was keen to help re-establish Manly as a premier entertainment choice for locals, Sydneysiders and visitors to the city and to highlight its wide range of dining and entertainment options.

Pengilly also reminded fans there would be free and ticketed events over the festival’s 12 days.

“Quite a few of the restaurants like Sunset Sabi and Daniel San will have live entertainment as well as the big pubs and the bars,” he said.

“In recent times we were forced to distance from each other so music is now more important than ever to bring people back together.”

Pengilly said people in the hospitality and entertainment industries were hit hard and lost work due to the pandemic.

“This festival will enliven it all again and let people know that it’s time to get out there and enjoy life again,” he said

Encore Manly is the idea of Matt Clifton, a Manly hospitality business operator. He’s also a co-founder of Experience Manly, a non-profit tourism organisation working to recover and grow Manly’s tourism economy.

Money for the festival is coming from the NSW Government’s CBDs Revitalisation Program.

“Manly is becoming the epicentre of entertainment in Sydney,” Mr Clifton said.

“There’s always something on here, it’s a really safe place to go out, we’re family friendly and the community really welcomes visitors to share the good times.

“Encore Manly is about celebrating great live Australian entertainment in highly accessible and intimate experiences. We’re bringing some of the best live performers and hottest names to Manly venues and inviting everyone over.”

State Liberal MP for Manly James Griffin agreed that Manly was “undergoing a renaissance”.

“This is a story of resilience and vision by the arts and hospitality sector in Manly post-lockdowns. The blueprint for the rest of Sydney can be found in the streets and alleyways of Manly,” Mr Griffin said.

Northern Beaches Mayor, Michael Regan, said the festival was an example of the community and stakeholders working together to create opportunities.

“We’re loving the partnership council, state government and our local business have built during Covid tough times, which has helped us to drive and secure great events like this,” Mr Regan said.

Rob Stanley-Jones, the licensee at Hotel Steyne, which will host Amy Shark, Boy & Bear, Daryl Braithwaite and Thundamentals, believed Encore Manly would generate positive energy for visitors and venues alike.
