Joy Blinstrub may have been 95 years old when she died, but her family and neighbours have described the “tiny” popular grandmother as forever young at heart.

Mrs Blinstrub was allegedly knocked over by a truck reversing down her driveway on Tuesday morning.

Her family and friends are now remembering her as a happy and popular part of her community.

Mrs Blinstrub died in the driveway of her home in Opala St, Belrose. She had been waiting, with her walking frame, to be picked up for an outing when she was allegedly struck by the reversing tipper truck.

A man, 53, from Frenchs Forest, has been charged by Northern Beaches Police with negligent driving (occasioning death) and not reverse vehicle safely.

Mrs Blinstrub lived in Opala St with her son Mark and his wife.

Mark said that she had moved in with his family after his father passed away.

“Mum lived in Dee Why for 30 years before she moved in with is,” he said.

“She was young at heart, selfless and a friend.

“She was loved by anyone she met.”

Mark said his mum loved her family more than anything else.

“Mum was only tiny, but her heart was big.”

A neighbour, who asked not to be named, said Mrs Blinstrub always had a smile on her face and was happy to have a chat with others in her street.

“She was so lovely,” the neighbour said. “She was just a little lady and so full of fun.

“Everyone liked her.

“It’s a real tragedy.”

Police said Mrs Blinstrub went into cardiac arrest at the scene and officers began attempts to resuscitate her before ambulance paramedics arrived.

A NSW Ambulance spokesman said paramedics took over CPR from police after five ambulance crews were sent to Opala St.

“Unfortunately she could not be revived and she died at the scene,” the spokesman said.
