Police are hunting the driver of a ute who ran down a woman on a pedestrian crossing on the northern beaches — and then drove off.
The woman, 22, was left with a broken wrist and massive bruising when she was struck by he ute outside the McDonald’s outlet at Beacon Hill.
The woman’s husband, who was walking with her when she was hit about 5.30pm on Wednesday, told police the driver stopped after the collision. However, he drove off after the woman suffered a seizure by the side of the road.
The couple were walking across the intersection of Willandra Rd and Cornish Ave on a green pedestrian light when the white, 4WD dual cab ute turned right from Cornish Ave.
The woman was knocked off her feet by the impact.
Police said the husband tried to remove the driver from the ute, but his attention was distracted when his wife started having a seizure.
“When the husband was attending to his wife, the ute drove away,” Northern Beaches crime manager Mick Boutouridis said.
“We would encourage the driver to present himself to police, before we have to go to him,” Chief Inspector Boutouridis said.
“As well as broken right wrist, the woman suffered extensive bruising down her back and legs.”
The ute driver is described as being male, caucasian, about 182cm tall with a light coloured beard.
Police have interviewed a number of witnesses and are checking CCTV footage at local businesses.
