Police seek photos and videos of brawl in Dee Why surf club carpark on Monday

Police are appealing for public help following a brawl at Dee Why on Monday afternoon involving police and the occupants of a stolen car.

Police are appealing for public help following a brawl at Dee Why on Monday afternoon involving police and the occupants of a stolen car.

At least 200 members of the public witnessed the incident and some were taking photos and videos with their smartphones.

Police are urging anyone with photos and videos of the incident to provide that material to the officers investigating the incident.

About 2pm on Monday, police tried to stop a VW Amarok utility in the carpark behind Dee Why surf club.

Checks revealed the vehicle had allegedly been stolen and may have been connected to an armed robbery in the Hunter Valley on December 22.

It’s alleged the vehicle sped away from the police and crashed into a parked car, injuring a woman sitting in the driver’s seat.

When police tried to arrest the occupants of the utility, some allegedly resisted arrest and assaulted two officers.

Capsicum spray and a Taser were deployed to subdue the group.

A male senior constable was taken to Northern Beaches Hospital for treatment after being punched multiple times to the face but was later discharged.

The woman sitting in the parked vehicle was treated at the scene for minor injuries but did not require hospitalisation.

Three men and two women were arrested and taken to Manly Police Station.

A 19-year-old Colyton woman was charged with taking and driving a vehicle without the owner’s consent, dangerous driving, never having held a driver’s licence and also with affray.

A 27-year-old Mosman man was charged with being carried in a stolen vehicle.

A 21-year-old Parklea man was charged with being carried in a stolen vehicle, two counts of assaulting police, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, affray and being in possession of a knife in a public place.

A 21-year-old Brookvale man was charged with being carried in a stolen vehicle, two counts of assaulting police, assault occasioning actual bodily harm and affray.

A 24-year-old Brookvale woman was charged with being carried in a stolen vehicle and affray.

Northern Beaches police crime manager Insp Michael Boutouridis urged anyone with photos or video to contact the police.

“There were at least 200 people present in the carpark at the time of the collision and arrest and numerous people were taking video footage of the events,” he said.

“I would like to appeal to the public for witnesses who either saw the incident or have footage of such to come forward and provide that information to the police.
