A NEIGHBOUR to the family of four found dead at a home in Davidson in Sydney’s north this morning has described them as “normal” adding that the children, aged 10 and 11, would play in the front yard.
Other residents nearby have expressed shock over the deaths and a fear that they may know the deceased.
The family is believed to be Colombian and moved to the area in 2005.
The husband, aged 44, worked for a logistics company.
His wife was 43 and their two children, nine and ten, were pupils at a local primary school.
Police went to the home in Sir Thomas Mitchell Drive at Davidson at 11.20am after they had been contacted by a friend or relative concerned for their welfare.
Police also found the family dog dead at the scene.
It is believed that one line of inquiry the police are following is the possibility of gas poisoning.
Forensic investigators wearing gas masks and carrying gas detectors were reportedly seen entering the home last night.
Neighbour, Sonja Perry, said she knew the deceased family.
“I used to walk up to the oval and they would say hello,” she said. “I knew they came from South America.
“The children were very nice kids but didn’t speak at all.
“They were just a normal family, the kids would play in the front yard.
“He built them a little play area so they could play in the front garden.
“The dad more or less built the house himself. They were well looked after.”
Local mother Kirsty Den Brinke said she couldn’t believe something like this could happen on her quiet suburban street.
“It is really quiet around here and very family-friendly. This is going to shake the whole community,” she said.
Mrs Den Brinke said she had returned from picking up a sick child from school to see part of the street cordoned off with police tape.
“I saw the road was blocked off,” she said.
“It is quite shocking. It is awfully shocking. I have got kids and this involves kids. You just want to know if it is anyone that your kids know.
“My heart breaks. We are a community here and you would like to think that if somebody is in trouble they would reach out.’
A crime scene has been established and will be examined by forensic investigators while detectives have launched an investigation into the deaths of the four people.
A report will be prepared for the Coroner.
Police said no further information is available at the moment as they try to locate relatives of the family.
