Police raid Newport flat after dope plants spotted allegedly grown on the roof
A tip from the public led police to a block of units in Newport, where an arrest was made for allegedly growing marijuana.

Eagle-eyed police have charged a northern beaches’ man after they spotted 20 cannabis plants allegedly being grown on the roof of a block of flats
An officer, carrying a camera with a telescopic lens, spotted the plants allegedly growing on top of the unit block in Newport, after a tip off from the public.
Armed with a search warrant, Northern Beaches Police conducted an 8am raid on the building in Wallumatta Rd last week.
A spokesman said the occupants of the house included a man, 46, his 19-year old son and the son’s girlfriend, 18.
“Officers allegedly found 20 cannabis plants and seedlings under cultivation on the roof,” he said.
In the unit below, other drugs and items including a NSW Ambulance jacket suspected of being stolen, were allegedly found.
The father was given an official cannabis caution.
His son was charged with cultivating a prohibited plant. He was given conditional bail to appear in Manly Local Court on December 4.
In other news, police patrolling in Porter Reserve at Newport at 5.50pm on Saturday heard loud music and the voices of three local female teenagers
Police found 10 bongs – devices for smoking cannabis – spread out on the ground. Officers conducted a search of the three teens and located a small plastic container containing green vegetable matter on one of the girls.
In the presence of her parents she admitted to being in possession of cannabis. She was
eligible for a Youth Caution.
