Police carry out drug raid on Sydney’s northern beaches

POLICE are awaiting analysis of substances believed to be illegal drugs allegedly seized at a semi-rural property at Mona Vale last Thursday.

The substances allegedly included about 160g of what police believe is the drug ice, 2 litres of a liquid believed to be gamma-butyrolactone, or GBL, sometimes known as “a coma in a bottle”, several litres of precursor chemicals and five cannabis plants.

Police also allegedly found crude laboratory equipment they believe had been used to make illegal drugs.

They also seized two jet skis they believe to have been stolen or obtained unlawfully.

Northern Beaches crime manager Insp Craig Wonders said local police raided the semi-rural property off Mona Vale Rd at 8am on Thursday, backed by officers from the North West Metropolitan Region Operational Support Group.

He said that after the property had been secured, officers from the Chemical Operations Squad and firefighters examined the substances and equipment allegedly found in a dwelling and a shed at the property.

Insp Wonders said police were awaiting analysis of the chemicals allegedly seized.

He urged anyone who believes unlawful activity connected with drugs is occurring on premises to contact the police.

He said some tell-tale signs including activity at odd hours of the day and night, cars frequently coming and going, windows blacked out, unusual piping or irrigation, plastic drums and unusual chemical odours.
