Changeable weather — alternating between showers and sunshine — didn’t stop spectators turning up to catch some of the spectacular action at the Sydney Surf Pro at Manly Beach this week.
While fans dodged the downpours some of the world’s best surfers were in the water for rounds one and two of the men’s competition at the opening event of this year’s World Surf League’s (WSL) Challenger Series.
Organisers said the competitors, including 2015 WSL world champion Adriano de Souza, from Brazil, had the benefit of “pristine three-to-four foot waves” for the third day of competition on Tuesday.
The finals are scheduled on March 14.
Later in the week some of the top woman surfers including Australia’s Sally Fitzgibbons and Hawaii’s shark attack survivor Bethany Hamilton will be paddling in to the line up.
