A talented ballerina whose mentor is Lucinda Dunn – the former principal of the Australian Ballet – has won a scholarship to train overseas.
Pearl Arrowsmith, 18, of Forestville, is considered a rising star in the ballet world.
She recently received the Royal Academy of Dance’s highest examined status – the Solo Seal – which is only attained by a few who are regarded to be in the highest echelon of artistry and technique.
She also received a scholarship worth $8000 to help with overseas training.
The teenager flew to the European School of Ballet in Amsterdam over the Christmas break to start two years of study, before she hopes to join a ballet company.
“I want to get as much experience of travel and knowledge that I can,” Ms Arrowsmith said.
She said that she started ballet when she was two and fell in love with it.
By Year 5 and 6 she was begging her mum to let her train full-time.
She was allowed to train full-time four years ago.
Ms Arrowsmith said Ms Dunn, also from the northern beaches, is her teacher at the Tanya Pearson Academy.
Before that she was taught by Ms Dunn’s mother at her ballet school.
“Being coached by Ms Dunn is really a dream come true,” Ms Arrowsmith said.
“I would always go to watch her at the Australian Ballet.
“It was, oh gosh, so exciting when I found out she was my teacher.”
Before Ms Arrowsmith left she delighted audiences as the teenage Clara and the Sugar Plum Fairy at different performances of The Nutcracker at The Concourse in Chatswood.
