We got what we hoped for, but when it came the rain also brought with it floods, road closures and more than a few broken umbrellas.
And, there’s more to come.
The stormy, wet weather is set to continue until Tuesday with up to 30mm of rain predicted tomorrow, 6mm on Sunday and 10mm on Monday.
While the rain is welcome, police today warned people to be aware of potential to damage homes and property, as well as trees and powerlines falling.
The NSW State Emergency Service said people should stay clear of fallen trees or powerlines. It’s also important to avoid parking cars under trees and powerlines.
It also advises motorists not to drive through floodwater and stay clear of creeks and storm drains.
State Emergency Operations Controller, Deputy Commissioner Gary Worboys, said this type of weather can also create hazardous conditions on the roads.
“It has been a while since we’ve had significant rainfall, and while we don’t want to discourage people from enjoying their weekend, I also want to remind all road users take extra care,” Deputy Commissioner Worboys said.
“The key for motorists is drive or ride to the conditions; reduce your speed to make sure there’s enough braking distance between you and the vehicle in front.
“Most importantly, if the road conditions get dangerous – things like flash flooding, mud or landslides, debris or trees on the road – get off the road and wait somewhere away from trees, drains and low-lying areas and floodwaters.”
Today Oxford Falls Rd, between Wakehurst Parkway and Aroona Rd was closed due to flooding, and there was an abundance of water across Balgowlah Rd near Harris Farms.
