IT’S set to be a scorcher this weekend.

The temperature on the northern beaches tomorrow could hit 33C, offering a welcome blast of summer.

And records could even be broken, say forecasters.

The hottest September temperature recorded was just over 34C, in 1965.

Bureau of Meteorology forecaster Stephen Stefanac said things would start heating up today – but that Saturday would be the hottest day.

“On the coast it’s going to be close to 26C,” he said.

“Further inland, away from the sea breeze, you’re looking at 28C and at some places it could each 29C.

“On Saturday it’s going to get pretty hot.

“Inland we could get 33C and at Manly we’re looking at 30C. Up at Terrey Hills it could 31C.

“On Sunday things are going to cool off a little bit, although it’s still likely to be warm. We’re looking at 26C to 28C.

“It’s possible records will be broken.”

Mr Stefanac said Monday onwards would be slightly cooler – closer to 20C in Manly – before Wednesday and Thursday warmed up again.
