AUTHORITIES are warning motorists of delays this weekend due to major traffic changes and road works along two of the northern beaches’ busiest roads.

Traffic will be temporarily stopped and temporary lane closures will be in place on Warringah Rd at Frenchs Forest throughout the evenings to allow eastbound vehicles to be diverted on to the previous westbound lanes.

And drivers using Pittwater Rd at Dee Why will have to negotiate night time construction work linked to improvement to the B-Line express bus service for the next three weekends.

At Frenchs Forest, Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) said it is taking cars off the current eastbound lanes for about five months because the northern side of Warringah Rd was becoming a construction zone as part of road upgrades linked to the Northern Beaches Hospital.

“These changes are necessary to prepare for the next stage of road construction on Warringah Rd,” a spokesman said.

Work to move the traffic off the eastbound lanes — between Fitzpatrick Ave and Rodborough Rd — starts at 8pm on Friday and will continue to 8am on Sunday.

“During the traffic changes, there may be delays as temporary lane closures will be in place and traffic will be temporarily stopped throughout the evenings,” the spokesman said.

“Once the new eastbound lanes have been rebuilt, traffic will be moved onto them in October this year to allow work to power ahead on the underpass.”

Traffic lights will be turned off at the Forest Way intersection between 8pm Friday and 7am Saturday and traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction to allow work to move the eastbound lanes.

From 6pm on Saturday to 8am Sunday, traffic lights will be turned off at the intersections with Wakehurst Parkway and Hilmer St. Traffic will be reduced to one lane each way on Warringah Rd.

Police will be on control duty at these intersections.

During the next five months work in the new construction zones will go ahead between 7am and 6pm and will include Saturday work from 8am and 1pm.

RMS said some overnight work — between 8pm to 5am Monday to Friday — will be scheduled.

Bus routes will not be affected.

At Dee Why work will be carried out on Pittwater Rd between Pacific Pde and Hawkesbury Ave between 7pm, Fridays and 5am Mondays for the next three weekends.

Transport for NSW said activities to build B-Line infrastructure include construction of a safety barrier along the centre median of Pittwater Rd and pavement replacement at the intersections with Fisher Rd and Oaks Ave.

One lane will be closed in each direction during the day, with two lanes closed each direction overnight.

The work will require temporary lane closures, parking removal, traffic detours and bus stop relocations

“Motorists travelling through these areas should expect delays and are asked to plan their trips in advance, allow extra travel time and use real-time traffic apps to help find the best route based on live traffic data,” the spokesman said

“The community and motorists are thanked for their patience while work to improve traffic flow and reduce congestion continues.”
